Do bumper stickers and signs really matter?

I was thinking about this very question the other day. Candidates and their campaigns are constantly telling us that a bumper sticker or sign is just as important as a monetary donation to their campaign. My question is do these stickers and signs make a difference? Are we going to convert or cause someone to come over to our side just because we have a bumper sticker on our car, or a sign in our front yard? I do not know the answer, but my gut feeling is probably not. I think the campaigns and candidates are not so much longer for that one convert, but they are seeking to influence an area or community by overwhelming the area with their presence. Most of the people who sem to tune into elections a few days before are the targets of the stickers and signs. Just think of the guy or gal who is too busy to pay attention now, but decides to focus on the election a day or two before the vote and sees nothing one candidate's signs and stickers. That person is proably apt to vote for that candidate or may just decide to stay home feeling that their candidate really doesn't stand a chance.
I final word on this issue is that signs and stickers do matter for the simple fact that if a candidate is able to overwhelm an area with signs and bumper stickers, that candidate may actually succeed in causing his opponent's supporters in throwing the towel and staying home feeling that all is lost this go round.

Polls, Polls and more Polls

Over these last few days until the election, which has gone on for way too long, we are going to see lots and lots of polling numbers that wll predict one thing or another. One must remember that polls are not valid and reliable unless said poll is predicting that your candidate is leading or going to prevail. Just today, I have seen two polls saying this race between Obama and McCain is neck and neck and then there is the poll that shows Obama with a ten point lead. Which of these polls is correct who knows, but I feel that the true poll would show this race as to close to call right now. As i have said before and will say again these last few days are going to be interesting.

Who's to blame Republicans or Democrats

Our representatives in Washington are trying pass a bail-out plan that most americans do not want passed. The Dems, led by their leader Rep. Pelosi are also engaging in the who's to blame game. As a results of Rep. Pelosi's comments on the House floor prior to the vote, the Republicans decided that enough is a enough and handed Pelosi and the Dems a defeat. The Dems
need only look to Congressional hearings a few years for a clue as to who is the blame. None other than Mr. Chairman himself Rep. Frank is there down playing any problems or crisis with Fannie Ma and Freddie Mac. Someone needs to point this out Rep. Frank. Contary to Speaker Pelosi's quoting of a Sanburg poem, this problem or crisis did not quietly come upon us in the night. The alarm bells have been ringing for awhile now in the mortgage debacle. The Dems loved the idea of affordable cheap housing and everyone being a homeowner, the problem was most of the people getting these loans are not able to carry the mortgages now. Congree should stop blaming Wall Street and take a good hard look in the window and see who the real culprits are.
